Chumming and Chunking

Chumming and chunking are how you turn a school of pelagics into a feeding frenzy behind the boat. The principle is the same whether the target is mahi, yellowfin, bluefin, or snapper: a steady slick of ground chum and cut chunks pulls fish up, holds them close, and triggers competitive feeding, so a hooked bait drifts back looking like the rest of the free meal. RJ Boyle works the dolphin and open-water tuna programs, and Josh Howard runs the trawler and platform bite at Venice, where matching the chunk to what the fish are keyed on is everything.
