David Posey
Captain David Posey is a native of Destin, Florida and the owner of Kayak Fishing Destin, one of the most knowledgeable saltwater kayak anglers on the Emerald Coast. He has fished the Panhandle for more than twenty-five years, targeting redfish, trout, and flounder inshore and running a kayak offshore for cobia, king mackerel, and blackfin tuna. In his In The Spread video, Posey teaches how to select and outfit a saltwater fishing kayak, from inshore and offshore hull designs to pedal drives, stability, and essential gear.

About Instructor
Most people think of a kayak as an inshore tool, something for poking around the flats. David Posey uses one to catch blackfin tuna a mile or two off the beach. A native of Destin, Florida and the owner of Kayak Fishing Destin, Posey has turned kayak fishing into a serious offshore and inshore pursuit, and he is one of the most knowledgeable saltwater kayak anglers on the Emerald Coast.
Posey has fished the Panhandle for more than twenty-five years and guided out of a kayak for over a decade. The path was not a straight line. He spent years on the road as a musician before a day on the water with a friend showed him he could make a living doing what he loved, so he bought a handful of kayaks and never looked back. That same enthusiasm is what his clients feel today, whether they have never held a paddle or have fished from a kayak for years.
His home water is the Destin Gulf and bay, and the range is what makes him such a complete teacher. Inshore, Posey works Choctawhatchee Bay, the flats, coastal dune lakes, and backcountry creeks for redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and Spanish mackerel. Push a mile or two offshore to the private structure he has marked, and the same kayak, rigged with a GPS fishfinder, puts him on cobia, king mackerel, blackfin tuna, and more. Running offshore in a kayak is a different animal, and Posey knows exactly how to do it safely and productively.
That expertise starts with the boat itself. Posey also works in the kayak business, and few anglers understand the equipment as thoroughly as he does. He knows which hull to choose, why secondary stability matters when you are standing to cast or fighting a fish, when a pedal drive beats a paddle, and how to rig a saltwater kayak so it performs and holds up.
In his In The Spread video, Posey breaks down exactly that: how to select and outfit a saltwater fishing kayak, from inshore and offshore hull designs to propulsion, stability, and the gear that keeps you fishing and safe. If you want to get into kayak fishing the right way, start with the man who lives it.
