In the fall when largemouth bass move in from the open water to start spawning, they will be looking for cover to bed in. This time of year the wind will push floating vegetation like penny wort and hyacinth up against the cattails creating heavily matted cover. This is what you want to look for and where the bass will be staging for the spawn. More or less a canopy is blown into standing cover creating a canopy that looks really thick.
